This large crocheted square motif can be used for a variety of projects. I will be making a market bag with this pattern… so stay tuned for that tutorial! For this tutorial, I will take you through each of the thirteen different rounds of this pattern. The motif measures 13.5″ by 13.5″. You could carry on and repeat the last two rounds of the motif to make a larger square if desired.

I made this motif using one color of yarn, but you could use any combination of colors by fastening off after any round and adding a new color for the next round. I will have another tutorial showing how to make this motif into a market bag, and if you are interested in that project, I recommend using a cotton yarn because it is nice and strong. If you want to make a pillow, blanket or any other project with this large crocheted square motif, you can use any yarn you desire.

I did try to write a pattern for this project, but unfortunately, my cognition is still very much uncooperative, and I simply can’t write patterns at this time. So there is just the video at the bottom of this post. It is very comprehensive and shows you step-by-step how to crochet every round of this large crocheted square motif. The video tutorial is a bit long because each of the thirteen rounds is different. If you are new to crochet, make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn all the basics of crochet.

The first seven rounds of the large crocheted square motif are crocheted in a circular pattern and then we begin to square the motif off starting at round eight. This is where the stitch markers are handy, but not required.

The finished motif will require blocking when you are done, and I have a video tutorial below that demonstrates how to do that. I like using the hand-steamer as it is very convenient, works quickly and does a very nice job.

This tutorial for crocheted fitted slippers is easy to follow and they are super cozy! They fit very much like a shoe and can be made with a cuff if desired. The sole is constructed using two layers for each slipper, so they are very soft on the feet! This tutorial is a little more advanced than my “Cozy Crocheted Slippers” pattern, however, the tutorial takes you through the whole process, step by step. If you are new to crochet, make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn all the basic tips and techniques of crochet.

I do not have a written pattern for this project, but the video tutorial demonstrates everything you need to know for these lovely crocheted fitted slippers. It is a rather long video, but I made sure not to include every step!

The yarns I used are thrift store finds, but I will link some similar products down below. The fiber is wool and is approximately a number 5 bulky yarn. Because these slippers are made to fit a specific length of foot, the stitch count will be different for each size. Therefore, you can use any weight yarn you like, but I would not go any smaller than a number 4 medium (or worsted) weight yarn.

Supply List

(Based on a women’s size 6.5 shoe…see chart below for size comparisons)

Number 5 bulky yarn (click on county of choice to see availability near you)

Variegated color = 115-120 yards

Solid color = 38-40 yards

5.5 mm (I-9) crochet hook

Scissors

Darning needs

Stitch markers

The pattern requires four sole pieces and I used a complimentary color for two of them. You could use the complimentary color for all four pieces or make the slippers all in one color. The choice is up to you!

The way the sole pieces crochet up, there is actually a left and right sole. I show in the tutorial how you can make a reverse sole, so when the two pieces are joined together they fit perfectly with wrong sides facing in and the right sides facing out. This is not essential, but is a nice little detail for a better fit.

The soles for the crocheted fitted slippers are slip-stitched together before the top of the slipper is created. Extra padding could be inserted between the two pieces to create even more comfort!

As to top of the slipper pattern is crocheted, we use reducing stitches to close up to toe. Stitch markers are very helpful to keep track of where to reduce the stitches. The video tutorial shows you every step you need to know to crochet these slippers.

Once you’ve completed the pattern, you can stop there and have a regular slipper, or you can continue adding rounds to create a cuff-style slipper.

This Hooded Crocheted Scarf is one of the easiest projects to make! Adding a hood to any crocheted scarf, shawl, sweater or poncho is easier than you think! In this tutorial, I will show you just how easy it is. I will also show how to add a fun crab stitch edge to the brim of the hood. The fun and whimsical style of this hood is absolutely charming.

In this tutorial, I am using the scarf made with the straight granny stitch (see video below) along with the the stitch pattern from the comfort blanketed for pet rescue centers for the hood (video tutorial is also below…). You can use any scarf pattern you like along with any stitch pattern for the hood. If you are new to crochet, make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series.

I will show you how to crochet a nice crab stitch around the face of the hood as a way to finish of the selvedge edge that faces out at the front of the hood. I will also show how you can make the hood section with the foundation chain stitch facing out at the front of the hood, thus eliminating the need for the crab stitch.

You can use any yarn you like, I am using the Mainstays number four medium-weight acrylic yarn from Walmart. The color I’m using is called Polo Stripe but doesn’t appear to be available in the USA. Here is a similar color in this line. It is however, available at Walmart Canada, along with some other fun color choices.

Above is the video tutorial for the scarf pattern I used in this tutorial for the Hooded Crocheted Scarf.

Above is the video tutorial for the stitch pattern I used for the hood of the scarf. It is a basic double crochet pattern with a couple of little tricks to make the fabric especially nice. You can make the hood any size you like using this stitch pattern.

This tutorial would make a fabulous Hooded Crocheted Scarf. You could do it in two different ways…either make the hood from the half-double crochet stitch pattern or use the granny squares. Both ways would be amazing!

Use the ideas and techniques in this video tutorial on the Hooded Crocheted Scarf to create your own design. Use any stitch pattern for the scarf and then something different for the hood. So long as you use a cohesive color scheme, it will look fabulous! Be creative and have fun.

If you crochet, then you will have bits and bobs of yarn…that is one of the carnal laws of crocheting! So, I created this Crocheted Stash Buster Scarf to inspire you to use up some of your stash! This is not a step-by-step pattern, but rather a creative process of using some tutorials I have already published. I will show you how to use the granny square pattern along with the double crochet v-stitch pattern to create this scarf. The video tutorial for this project is at the bottom of this post!

I am using tan as a neutral color, but you could use any neutral you like such as cream, black or grey. You could also work without a neutral and just use up all your scrap yarn in a random design. If you are new to crochet, make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series.

When I create patterns, I make a lot of test pieces. As a result, I had quite a stash of partially made pieces and test swatches. It was a big ugly mess!

I sorted the mess out and kept any granny squares I had, reducing some of them to two rounds. I had quite a few with two rounds and some with just one round. I decided to use these in my design and created two panels for each end of the scarf, using nine squares of two rounds each. I unraveled all the other samples and used them for the center panel of the scarf, which I made using the half double crochet v-stitch. All the yarn is a number 4 medium-weight yarn.

I give these details in the video tutorial, including the hook sizes I use for the center panel which was a 5 mm (I-9) for the foundation chain and row one, then a 4 mm (H-6) for the v-stitch pattern.

The result was a very fun and funky ‘scrappy scarf’. In the video tutorial below for this project, I show you how I used a variety of elements to create this Crocheted Stash Buster Scarf along with a few extra tips. All the tutorials I refer to can be found in this blog post. I also have an entire playlist on my YouTube channel with several scarf patterns. You could use any of those tutorials for a stash buster scarf as well!

This is the tutorial on how to crochet a basic granny square. You can do two rounds, as I did, or make larger squares…it’s up to you! Be creative and playful!

I used the half double crochet v-stitch for the center section, but you could use any stitch pattern you like. I have another stitch pattern at the bottom of this blog for the straight granny square stitch that would be perfect with the granny squares!

You can join your scrap pieces of yarn together using the magic knot, which I show how to do in the video above, or you can join as you go which I demonstrate in the Crocheted Stash Buster Scarf tutorial.

I use the whip stitch to join the granny squares together and to sew the granny square panels to the center panel of the scarf, but you can use any joining technique you like.

If you want to add tassels to your scarf, check out the video above “Super Easy Crocheted Scarf for Beginners” and go to the 14:40 mark to see how tassels are done. This scarf pattern also uses the half-double crochet v-stitch pattern.

Hello creative friends! I have put together a post with Lots of Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas. I do apologize for not creating a lot of new content lately, as I am still working with some chronic health issues. I have made a YouTube video, going over the projects in this blog post, and at the end of the video I share a bit about my health journey if you are interested.

But in this post, I have so many great ideas and tutorials for wonderful Christmas gifts, so do scroll down! For most of the projects, there will be a link directly to the blog post where you will find the supply list, related resources, and often, the written pattern. There is always a video tutorial at the bottom of the post. Lately, I have not been able to write patterns, but many of these projects do have written patterns. Click on each image to take you to that project. Have fun!

This Christmas stocking is made using granny squares, and while I take you through the process, step-by-step, I offer a unique twist on this project. I show you how to make a lining for it. While crocheted stocking are lovely and can be made using a variety of patterns, they are not very sturdy! Lining them makes the fabric nice and strong, so it can be practical and hold lots of great goodies!

Slippers have to be one of the best and easiest crocheted gift items ever! In this tutorial, I show you how to make two versions of the same pattern and technique. You can change it up by turning the fabric in different directions or add a cozy cuff around the ankle section. This is a super fun project!

This granny square pouch is so quick and easy to make and can be done using any granny square pattern you like! This would make a perfect gift to wrap a gift, especially if you used Christmas colors for the project.

Because I have Lots of Handmade Christmas Gift Ideas for scarves, cowls, hat, and headbands, I just put a link to my entire playlist on YouTube. There are so many great projects to choose from, so I thought that was the best way to share them. In that case, the blog post with related information will be in the description box below each video. Click on “… more” below the videos to open this up.

The cup cozies and dishcloths are perfect stocking stuffers. Because they are very quick to crochet, they also make great projects to sell at craft fairs. People often ask permission to use my patterns to make items to sell and I always say yes! If course, this does not include selling the pattern itself, but anything you make with my patterns is yours to sell.

Crocheted snowflakes are simply so pretty! I have three different patterns above and these make great gift tags, additions to stockings, perfect as a whole set, or to make for your own Christmas décor.

Learn how to use a hand-steamer for crocheted motifs! This is a great tool for blocking your crochet work. It can be a bit tricky, so I have created a short tutorial on best practices. The steam produced from this tool is very hot and can scald your fabric and you as well! Use extreme caution when using a hand-steamer.

I’m using a Conair hand-steamer. This may be in some of my older patterns as an affiliate link and I’m not sure if those are still in effect, so here is a new one: Conair Hand-Steamer

I’ve found it to be a great product and use it on all my crochet work (and other things too!)

You can see what a difference blocking makes in the image above. Some people block their work by wetting or washing it and then laying it flat to dry on a blocking board using pins or pegs. I’ve never used these items, so I can’t really comment, but he video tutorial will show you step-by-step how to use a hand-steamer for crocheted motifs.

The motif I am blocking in this tutorial is the Denim Rose Granny Square as shown in the video above. In that tutorial, I am using a number 4-medium-weight yarn with a 4mm crochet hook. The squares I am making in the blocking tutorial are made with a number 1-fine-weight yarn, and a 2.5mm crochet hook. I’ve also made a slight modification in the pattern by starting the first round with a half-double-crochet stitch, rather than a single crochet stitch. I think I will be making a sweater with these squares…but I’m not sure yet! Stay tuned

This is a quick and simple tutorial… enjoy!

This tutorial for a Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet combines my two favorite hobbies… crocheting and wire jewelry making. The bracelet is very easy to make by crocheting a simple chain stitch with a very fine wire, and working beads into each chain as you go. These bracelets make the perfect gift to give family or friends and is also a perfect project to make if you do craft fairs.

VIDEO TUTORIAL WILL BE PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 8TH AT 10 AM PST

The nice thing about this style of bracelet is that crocheting with wire makes it possible to make one size and then have about an inch of adjustment to make it smaller or larger. Just squish the wire together to make it smaller or pull it gently apart to get more length. I’m using small glass beads, but you can use any size or style of beads you like. There are countless possibilities for styles and colors with this Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet. We use a basic chain stitch, which is super easy to do, but if you are new to crochet, check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn the basics. You may even want to practice with yarn first to get the hang of doing a chain stitch.

Supply List

Fine gauge wire: 24g, 26g, or 28g (about 4 inches per inch of crochet)

I’m using 24g which I found at Michael’s

Check out Hobby Lobby or your local craft store

Assortment of beads, number 6 or larger (about 4 beads per inch of crochet)

Clasp (see video below on a tutorial on how to make your own)

2 split or jump rings to match clasp

Wire cutters

Chain nose/needle nose plyers

Round nose plyers (or bail making plyer)

3.5 mm crochet hook (use a larger one if using larger beads)

I used three colors of wire to crochet three different strands in green tone beads. I used some neutral color beads in gold, clear, copper and brown as well. Use a few larger beads for accent beads or maybe some metal or pearl type beads… be creative!

Once the three strands of wire and beads are crocheted, they are simply twisted together and then the clasps are attached. You can make two, three or four strands depending on the size of beads and how chunky you want the bracelet to be. The video tutorial below will show you step-by-step how to make this Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet. Have fun!

Hello creative friends! This tutorial is on how to turn yarn tail ends into funky fabric. If you are like me, you will have a whole basket full of little yarn clippings. I don’t have the heart to throw them out and I had the idea of quilting the yarn pieces into a funky fabric! It is the perfect way to use up all those tail ends and create a whole new project with them.

I had so many tail ends from my last project for the Crocheted Spring Lap Blanket, so that inspired me to do this project. I also had a lot of tail ends from other projects like the Easy Granny Square Scarf and all my Free-form Crochet projects.

The project I’m using the fabric for is for the purse shown below. This is NOT a tutorial on how to sew the purse, but on how to make the quilted fabric which you can use for any project you like. The video tutorial for how to how to turn yarn tail ends into funky fabric is at the bottom of this post.

The supplies you will need for this project are fairly basic…scrap yarn, fabric, and sewing supplies. I used a sewing machine to quilt this fabric which is demonstrated in the video, so a sewing machine is required. You can do hand quilting if desired, but I don’t demonstrate that technique. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube on how to do that. The colors and quantity of supplies will depend on the project you intend to use the fabric for, so I won’t be listing those details.

The key to making this fabric look funky and nicely marbled is to separate the plies of yarn. It takes a bit of time, but it is worth the effort! Check out the video on how to turn tail ends into funky fabric for the whole process… have fun!

I am on a mission to clear out my yarn stash, so I have a new tutorial for a Crocheted Spring Lap Blanket for Donation. This is for a local long-term care facility that is always looking for warm crocheted items for their residents. I thought the spring colors made this blanket cheerful and uplifting! If you are new to crochet, you can check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn all the basics!

I don’t have a written pattern for this project, the video tutorial is below, but if you are looking for the stitch pattern used for the center panel, it is called a zigzag lozenge stitch. You can crochet the whole blanket with this stitch pattern (which I will call version one), but I had to make the two side panels different (which I will call version two) because I injured my shoulder and it was too painful to do the “tog” stitch that creates the flower look in the pattern.

I love this crochet stitch pattern and given the choice, I would have made the whole blanket with this pattern. But I am happy with how the “Crocheted Spring Lap Blanket for Donation” turned out…it was a successful creative solution! You can make this blanket using any combination of colors you like, or any yarn you like. It is a great way to use up scrap yarn as well. Scroll down to the image below to see the pillow on the chair beside me with the same stitch pattern.

The blanket is 30″ by 30″, but you can make this project any size you like! I’ve supplied the amount of yarn needed for both versions of the blanket below. I no longer do affiliate links, but the best place to find Bernat Premium Yarn in Canada is Walmart and in the USA at Yarnspirations.

The video tutorial will demonstrate the above stitch pattern, and at the end, I talk you through how to make the side panels using the half-double crochet V stitch. I have a video tutorial for that below and you can see how I continued with the same color sequence, but I used more green yarn in this pattern. The video will explain all the details.

I sewed the three panels for the “Crocheted Spring Lap Blanket for Donation” using the whip stitch. I have a video tutorial for that below, but I sewed into both the front and top loops of these panels, whereas the tutorial demonstrates sewing into the top loop only. It’s an easy modification to make.

My injury forced me to be creative and I was very pleased with how the blanket turned out… and you have two versions to choose from!

I have been crocheting Comfort Mats to Donate to Pet Rescue Centers (specifically for a cat rescue facility in my area), and I thought this pattern would be perfect to share! These mats are given to the animals while in the rescue center, to provide comfort, and then when they are adopted, the mat goes with them so they have a sense of something safe and familiar. It’s a wonderful gift to provide for animals in need!

I have been making my mats 12″ x 18″ and some as long as 24″. You can contact your local pet shelters to see what sizes they need. I use three strands of number four, medium-weight yarn so the mats are nice and thick. This is a great project to use up scraps of yarn and all your odds and sods. The pattern is a simple single crochet stitch, so it’s perfect for beginners. However, if you are new to crochet, I suggest checking out my Beginner Crochet Series and working with one strand of super chunky yarn.

While I am using three strands of the same weight yarn, you could combine weights, such as a strand of number five, one of number four, and one of number three. You could use two strands of number five yarn or one strand of a super chunky yarn. Just think soft, thick, and comfy!

You can have a lot of fun combining colors too! I always have a variegated color yarn or a ball of scrap yarn joined with magic knots, along with two solid colors. The multiple colors with the solid colors create a fun and surprising pattern. Crocheting these Comfort Mats to Donate to Pet Rescue Centers is such a great way to use up yarn and provide warmth and coziness in what can be a stressful environment.

8 mm (L-11) crochet hook

Scissors

Darning needle

Stitch markers (optional)

I no longer use affiliate links, but you can check out Yarnspirations USA for the Bernat Yarn, or in Canada, you can use this link.

I have created a video tutorial with a few special tips like how to fix a loop of yarn that doesn’t make it into the crochet work, how to measure your foundation chain properly, how to start the first row in the back bump, and how to finish the mat. Check that out below!

The Pattern for 12″ x 18″ Comfort Mat

Ch 24, plus 1 for turning ch

Row one: 1 sc in back bump of 2nd ch from hook, *1 sc in next back bump. Repeat from * to the end of the row (24 sc), ch 1, turn.

Row 2: 1 sc in first sc (under both loops), *1 sc in next sc (under both loops). Repeat from * to the end of the row (24 sc), ch 1, turn.

Row 2 to 40: repeat Row 2

Using three colors of yarn can create a lot of fun color combinations. You can see a few examples down below. The mat on the left was made using a variegated yarn of burgundy, copper, blue, and green, along with a solid tan (Bernat Super Value Topaz) and a medium purple color from my stash. The mat on the left was made using a variegated yarn of burgundy, red, yellow, purple, teal, and green, along with the solid Bernat Super Value in Topaz and Forest Green. I absolutely love how all these colors create such a different look!

Learn how to make an Easy Crocheted Cup Cozy with the option of two button styles. These cozies crochet up very quickly and are the perfect last-minute gift item. They are also perfect to make as items to sell at craft fairs or online and are a great way to use up scraps of yarn.

Depending on the style of the cup, you can make the cup cozy with one button or two. If the cup tapers at the bottom, then using two buttons is a great option. This allows you to make the lower loop a bit smaller, so the bottom of the cozy is narrower than the top.
This Easy Crocheted Unisex Scarf is suited for beginners and you can also make a matching hat using my Super Easy Crocheted Beanie pattern. I am using a number 4 medium-weight yarn for this pattern, but it is a bit on the ‘thin’ size for that weight. Therefore, the Beanie pattern needed to be adjusted slightly and I’ve made a note of that below the link to the video tutorial for that pattern. If you are new to crocheting, then make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series.

I chose this self-striping yarn by Lion Brand because the shades of denim colors were perfect for a unisex design. The pattern does not have tassels, but I have included a video below for my Easiest Crocheted Scarf Pattern that shows how to do tassels, so you can check that out if desired. I do not have a written pattern for the Easy Crocheted Unisex Scarf, but there is a step-by-step video tutorial below.

The scarf finished at 6.5″ by 70″, and for that, I needed an extra ball of yarn. The yarn I used (shown below on the supply list) made the scarf only 60″ long, therefore, a second ball of yarn was needed. There is enough yarn left over to make a matching Beanie and even a pair of mittens.

In the video tutorial, I will be demonstrating with a plain color yarn because this self-striping yarn from Lion Brand is also variegated and it is impossible to see on camera! The solid yarn also shows the stitch pattern nicely.

For the ‘youth/ladies small’ size, I used the stitch pattern for the grey yarn, but I repeated round six, adding an extra round of increases. I made the hat with a total of twelve rounds and then made the band a bit deeper. Rather than making the band with a chain three, I did a chain six (not including the turning chain). The Beanie pattern is very adaptable, either by adding extra rounds or making the band a different depth. Be playful!

Learn how to make this Crocheted Headband with a Twist! The stitch pattern is called the “small daisy stitch” and it is such a pretty pattern for this headband. Creating the knot is much easier than you may think, and the technique can be used for any crocheted stitch pattern you like. A simple single crochet stitch could be used to make a panel. Just crochet a rectangle piece to fit, and then follow the directions on how to sew the panel together.

Cloth tape measure

Hand-steamer (optional)

People often about making these projects to fit different size people. I always custom-fit, but here is a chart that can help you figure out sizing. I do find these sizes generous because crochetwork tends to have a fair bit of flexibility in it, but it can be used as a guideline for this Crocheted Headband with a Twist.

You will need to do a bit of math to calculate the length of the foundation chain. For some reason, this stitch (the small daisy stitch) compresses in length…quite substantially. I have always used the foundation chain to measure the fit. My head circumference is 20.5″, but the foundation chain with a comfortable fit is 19″. This is because the chain has some flexibility in it.

When I made the foundation chain 19″ in length (which again, was the comfortable size for the chain around my head) and crocheted the first row of this stitch pattern, the length shrunk to 16″! So, after much trial and error, I found a calculation that worked. Use the fitted length of the foundation chain and multiply that by 1.25. So in my case, that was 19″ x 1.25 = 24.75″ for the foundation chain.

Once I crocheted the first row, it finished at 19.5″. It did finish a little bit larger (by 1/2″), so if you have to add a stitch or subtract a stitch to get your odd number count on the foundation chain, I would suggest subtracting a stitch. I know this is a bit fussy, but this stitch pattern is so pretty and worth the effort! The finished size of the fabric is 19.5″ by 4.75″.

The Pattern

Note: This stitch pattern seems complicated, but it is very easy, once you know the pattern. There are several steps for each stitch, so I am not providing photos for this pattern. You can check out the video tutorial to see how this pattern works up.

Make a foundation chain to fit with an odd number of stitches. For this project, I am making a ladies’ small, which measures 24.75″ in length (after special math), and based on my yarn choice, hook size, and tension, the foundation chain worked out to 77 chains.

Row one: working into the back bump of the chain for the entire row, sk st, yo, pull through the 2nd ch from the hook (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through next st, (3 loops on hook), sk st, yo, pull through next st (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through all four loops, ch 1 (beginning cluster made).

*Yo, pull through the leg of ch1, (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through the base stitch of the cluster (3 loops on hook), sk st, yo, pull through next st (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through all four loops, ch 1. Repeat from * to the end of the row. There will be 2 ch’s left, complete the cluster as directed except the ch 1 stitch. Turn your work.

Rows three to seven: repeat row two

Last row: finish row two repeat, ch 1 for the last cluster and ch 1 to fasten off. Leave a 12″ tail to sew the band together. Darn in the beginning tail end. You can make the band any depth you like, but this knot pattern works best with a slightly deeper fabric. My panel finished at 19.5″ by 4.75″.

To create the know for this Crocheted Headband with a Twist, bring the short ends of the band together and tuck them inside each other halfway. You will have 1/3 gap on each side and 1/3 with four layers of fabric. If you are using a different stitch pattern, you want to have the fabric with the right sides facing together. This daisy stitch pattern is reversible, so either side is fine.

Using the long tail end, sew the four layers of fabric together using a whip stitch (or any stitch you like). Do a double stitch for the last stitch and turn the headband 180 degrees (see below).

The two open spaces will fold naturally together. Line them up, and using the same strand of yarn, sew the two ends together using the same stitch. Finish with a knot and darn in the tail end. Flip the band right side out and you are done!!! How pretty!

Christmas is coming and what could be more fun than crocheting a Granny Square Christmas Stocking ~ With a Lining? Crocheted stockings are wonderful and there are many patterns and designs to choose from, but they are not necessarily practical. Crocheted fabric stretches, especially the chain stitch loop used to hang the stocking, and if you are using granny squares for your stocking design…there are all those holes to contend with!

So, in this tutorial, I will show you not only how to make a granny square stocking, but how to make a lining for it. You can use the lining concept for any crocheted Christmas stocking you like! Adding a lining to a crocheted stocking will give it more strength and make it more practical. Try putting an orange and a box of chocolates in a crocheted stocking and it will stretch out a lot! Also, making a fabric loop to hang the stocking with is much stronger than a crocheted loop.

There is no written pattern for this project, but I will include here links for resources needed to complete it. There is a video tutorial for this Granny Square Christmas Stocking ~ With a Lining at the bottom of this post. Have fun!

One Pattern ~ Two Styles!

There is nothing better than homemade cozy crocheted slippers! This pattern is so easy and can be made in just a few hours. I have two variations for this pattern, one with a cuff and one without. But you can also create different looks by your choice of yarn and the direction in which you sew the crocheted slipper panels together. I will explain all that later on.

For the slippers with the cuff, I am using a number 5 bulky yarn in a solid color. The other pair of slippers are made using a number 6 super bulky yarn in a variegated color pattern. The choice is yours, but I do recommend using a wool blend of some sort, as the wool yarn is more durable and warm.

As always, there is a video tutorial for these Cozy Crocheted Slippers at the bottom of this post.

If you are new to crochet, then check out my Beginner Crochet Series. We are going to crochet a rectangle panel using a simple single crochet stitch. To calculate the size, you want to measure the length of your foot from heel to toe, and the sizing chart above is helpful if you are making slippers as a gift.

Many patterns recommend making the panel square, using the foot length measurement, but in most cases, the measurement around the widest part of the foot is a little bit bigger. So, I recommend using both measurements, the length and width, and then crochet the slipper panels that size.

For me, my foot size is 6.5 US and the length equaled 9″. The width measured 9.5″, so that is the size I made my panels. The direction of the fabric will make a difference to the length of your foundation chain. If using a self-striping yarn, like the panel on the left, it works best to have the foundation chain as the width (for me 9.5″). If you want the stitch pattern to go in the other direction, then the foundation chain would be the length of the foot (for me 9″).

How the slippers are folded depending on the direction of your fabric. The heel section is at the bottom and the toe is at the top.

When sewing the slipper panels together, the striped fabric looks much better going with the pattern across the foot, rather than along the length. This is a design principle that you can use or not, but it does make a difference in the look of the slippers. I am doing both ways so you can see the difference. The slippers with the striped fabric will be made without the cuff, and crochet up very quickly!

The Pattern for the Cozy Crocheted Slippers

Foundation chain: make it equal to the length or width of the foot (depending on your choice of direction with the panel). Make this chain quite loose, and depending on your crochet tension, you may want to use a crochet hook a half size bigger for the foundation chain. Also, leave a long tail (12″-15″) for sewing.

Row one: ch 1, 1 sc in the back bump of the first ch from hook, *1 sc in the next back bump, repeat from * to the end of the row. You will have the same number of stitches as your foundation chain (not including the ch1 at the beginning of this row.)

Row two: ch 1, 1 sc in both loops of first st, *1 sc in both loops of next st, repeat from * to the end of the row.

Row three onward: repeat row two until you have the desired length or width of your panel, ch 1 to fasten off. Leave a 12″-15″ tail for sewing.

Depending on whether you have an even or odd number of rows, your tails will either be on both sides or opposite sides of the panels. If they are on both sides, use that end of the fabric for the toe section.
