How to Crochet a Snowflake

Sharing is caring!

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share a tutorial on how to crochet a snowflake. This is actually one of three different patterns that I will be sharing in the next couple of weeks. The crocheted snowflake pattern this week is quite simple, however, I do recommend that you have some basic crochet experience.

The pattern consists of chain stitches, single crochets, and double crochets… all of which can be learned in my Beginner Crochet Series. I will not be showing how to do these individual stitches in the tutorial. I will, however, show how to do a double crochet four together stitch (dc4tog) and a pico stitch. Both of these stitches are created using all those basic stitches I mentioned above.

The tricky thing about crocheting these snowflake patterns, is quite simply, working with a small crochet hook and thread. It can be a bit awkward for someone new to crochet or with very little experience. If you are new to crochet and feel confident, then by all means you can give these patterns a try!

I have created a video tutorial to show you how to crochet the first snowflake. I know some people prefer written patterns, but due to my current health challenges, I simply don’t have the energy or brainpower to provide written patterns at this time. I do hope this will change in time though! You can watch the tutorial here on my blog, or pop over to YouTube and watch it there.

You will also want to starch the crocheted snowflake once it is done and I have created a tutorial for that process as well! I give the recipe for the sugar starch and also show how to take a crocheted doily and make it into a really pretty doily bowl! I love this so much!

You can watch this tutorial right here on my blog, or on YouTube. Sugar starch is so much fun and can be used to starch all sorts of things. I show how to make a doily into a bowl, but you could wrap a doily or pretty fabric around a glass candle votive or around a vase to add a pretty texture and design.

Next week, I will have two more tutorials for snowflakes. You can see what is coming up in the image below. The three snowflake patterns can be used to decorate your tree, to add to a Christmas wreath, for gift tags, at the top of a stocking for added decoration, or as beautiful hand-made gifts!
