These easy crocheted earrings are the perfect gift to make this spring for yourself or a loved one! If you are a maker and sell hand-made items, you are free to use this pattern to make earrings to sell. I do have a written pattern for this project (first time in quite awhile). Have fun using different color combinations to make these earrings your own! As always, there is a video tutorial for these easy crocheted earrings at the bottom of this post.

I have to apologize for several boo-boos while narrating the video tutorial, but I did place written corrections where I’ve made those mistakes. My brain function is still challenged these days, however, I am making a bit of progress, which I am grateful for! If you are new to crochet, make sure to check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn all the basics of crochet.

These easy crocheted earrings are super quick and fun to make. You can add beads as shown above, or sew seed beads in a decorative design. I did make a pendant from my prototype piece as it was a bit bigger than the final earrings which is shown in one of the pictures below. When talking about the supplies required for this project, I did get the size of crochet threads mixed up. The correct sizing is in the supply list below.

Supply List

Number 10 cotton thread in color(s) of your choice

Darning needle

Scissors

Small pins and foam board (to starch finished earrings)

30 ml (6 tsp) water and 20 ml (4 tsp) sugar for starch (see video tutorial below)

2 shepherd hooks

2 headpins

2 small beads

Round nose plyers

Flat nose plyers

Wire cutters

Demonstrating how to crochet a pattern using tiny crochet cotton on camera is very difficult for the viewer to see, so I used a number four medium weight yarn in the tutorial to demonstrate the stitch pattern. This worked so much better for the visual demonstration.

The Written Pattern

Begin with a magic ring or ch 4 and sl st to make a ring. If you do a magic ring, I recommend creating a knot before daring in the tail end to prevent the center from coming undone.

Round one: ch 1, 1 hdc into the ring 16 times. Join with a sl st into the first hdc.

Round two: ch 3 (counts as the first hdc, ch 1), [hdc, ch 2, hdc, ch 1] into the 1st st (first point made), hdc, ch 1 into the next st, 7 times, [hdc, ch 2, hdc, ch 1] into the next st (second point made), hdc ch 1 into the next st 6 times. Join with a sl st into the 2nd ch of beg ch3.

Round 3: 1 sc, ch 3 in 1st ch1 sp, [sc, ch 6, sc, ch 3] in ch2 sp (point), 1 sc, ch 3 in next ch1 sp 9 times, [sc, ch 6, sc, ch 3] in ch2 sp (point), 1 sc, ch 3 in next ch1 sp 8 times. Join with a sl st in the 1st sc. Fasten off.

This video tutorial shows how to make a sugar starch for crocheted items. The recipe calls for 50% each water and sugar, but I find that blend a little thick. I recommend using the portions written in the supply list which I also talk about in the video for the easy crocheted earrings, so make sure to check that out for starching recommendations specifically for the earrings. You can see in the image above how I sewed an accent bead into the center of the pendent motif. It would be very easy to add more beads to create more embellishment on both the pendent and earring motifs.

See the above tutorial on how to make a sugar starch, but use the proportions of sugar and water recommended in the supply list.

Once the motifs have been starched and are nice and dry, you can make the bead embellishments and add the shepherd hooks, which I demonstrate in the video for the easy crocheted earrings (however, I now recommend making the loops larger than demonstrated so the bead can dangle more freely). You can add a simple jump ring to the top of the pendent motif and put it on a necklace chain, or perhaps make a pretty Boho Necklace from one of my older tutorials.

In the above tutorial, I mention these coasters and hot pad set. Check it out!

This tutorial for a Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet combines my two favorite hobbies… crocheting and wire jewelry making. The bracelet is very easy to make by crocheting a simple chain stitch with a very fine wire, and working beads into each chain as you go. These bracelets make the perfect gift to give family or friends and is also a perfect project to make if you do craft fairs.

VIDEO TUTORIAL WILL BE PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 8TH AT 10 AM PST

The nice thing about this style of bracelet is that crocheting with wire makes it possible to make one size and then have about an inch of adjustment to make it smaller or larger. Just squish the wire together to make it smaller or pull it gently apart to get more length. I’m using small glass beads, but you can use any size or style of beads you like. There are countless possibilities for styles and colors with this Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet. We use a basic chain stitch, which is super easy to do, but if you are new to crochet, check out my Beginner Crochet Series to learn the basics. You may even want to practice with yarn first to get the hang of doing a chain stitch.

Supply List

Fine gauge wire: 24g, 26g, or 28g (about 4 inches per inch of crochet)

I’m using 24g which I found at Michael’s

Check out Hobby Lobby or your local craft store

Assortment of beads, number 6 or larger (about 4 beads per inch of crochet)

Clasp (see video below on a tutorial on how to make your own)

2 split or jump rings to match clasp

Wire cutters

Chain nose/needle nose plyers

Round nose plyers (or bail making plyer)

3.5 mm crochet hook (use a larger one if using larger beads)

I used three colors of wire to crochet three different strands in green tone beads. I used some neutral color beads in gold, clear, copper and brown as well. Use a few larger beads for accent beads or maybe some metal or pearl type beads… be creative!

Once the three strands of wire and beads are crocheted, they are simply twisted together and then the clasps are attached. You can make two, three or four strands depending on the size of beads and how chunky you want the bracelet to be. The video tutorial below will show you step-by-step how to make this Crocheted Wire and Beaded Bracelet. Have fun!

If you are new to crocheting, then this Easy Crocheted Bracelet is a perfect project for you! What is so wonderful about this project, is that you can wear the bracelet as a necklace, a choker, and even as an anklet. Most projects like this tie the ends of the crochet and beads together, but I will show you how to add a loop and button which makes it possible to wear this as a choker and anklet as well.

I made these bracelets 50″ long and that worked out to seven wraps for my wrist, two for the necklace, three for the choker, and five wraps for the anklet. You can wear just one, or two… or even more (see image at the bottom of this post).

I will not be writing a pattern for this Easy Crocheted Bracelet because it is a super easy project made by crocheting a chain stitch with beads worked into the chain at intervals. And, while it is very easy, there are several things to consider such as sizing, thread choice, beads, hook size, spacing of beads, and so forth. For that reason, the video tutorial is the best way to share this project. If you are new to crocheting, then check out my Beginner Crochet Series here.

Here is the video tutorial for the Easy Crocheted Bracelet, and you can find a supply list below the video. I go into more detail about the supplies in the video tutorial but I also have a chart below that shows the conversion from regular crochet hooks to steel hooks…it’s a bit of an odd system.

But steel hooks get smaller as the number increases. This is because steel hooks are tiny and have more sizes to choose from. The increment between sizes is small, so a different numbering system was devised. They are made especially for crochet cotton thread.

Learn how to embellish Tyvek Beads using fine wire and seed beads. In this tutorial, I also show how to make Tyvek beads into a pendant and how to make single loops at each end of the bead with a heavy gauge wire, so the beads can be used in a variety of projects.

Embellish Tyvek Beads

I created a separate tutorial awhile back where I showed how to make the actual Tyvek beads. These beads are very pretty just as they are, and you could certainly skip the embellishing step and just make a pendant or finish the beads with the single loops on each end and use them that way. You can check out the Tyvek Bead Tutorial here.

Tyvek Beads

For this tutorial, I am using copper wire, but you could use any color wire you like. There are so many possibilities including funky colored wires. I am also using the finest seed beads available, plus one size up. I don’t have a link for these because I’ve had my stash for several years, and I don’t actually know the true size. I got most of my beads from craft shops and dollar stores.

Learn how to make your own Tyvek Beads! These bohemian style beads are so easy to make and there are countless possibilities for colors, sizes, and shapes. Tyvek is a type of paper that has some plastic as part of the content. It is used as a vapor barrier between the plywood sheath and the exterior siding in building construction. The paper content makes the surface easy to paint and the plastic content allows you to melt it into a variety of shapes!

Different sizes of Tyvek beads

Because you can make these beads yourself, you can decide if you want them to be long or short, plump or thin, all one color, or a mix of different colors. You can paint the background color all the same and then paint different layers of colors on top of that, creating a cohesive color scheme but with variety at the same time. They are truly so much fun to make!

I have created a video tutorial for you that you can watch here, or pop over to YouTube and watch there.

Learn how to make this crocheted and beaded bracelet! It is a very easy project and is suited for beginners. I will show you how to create a bracelet with two wraps around the wrist, but you could make it as long as you like and for as many wraps as you like. I love how the beads crocheted so nicely into the bracelet, making a fun and whimsical piece of jewelry!

While the instructions for this tutorial are for a bracelet, you can use the crochet and beaded technique to make a choker or an anklet! You can make the bracelet with any combination of cotton thread and colored beads you like.

I have created a video tutorial for the crocheted and beaded bracelet as well and you will find that at the bottom of this post!

Start by applying glue to the top one or two inches of the crochet cotton and let it dry completely. This will create a nice firm tip to thread the beads on to. When the tip has dried, thread on the beads. You will use approximately three beads for every 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the bracelet.

Measure how long your bracelet will be by wrapping the cotton yarn around your wrist for as many wraps you want. The length of my bracelet with 2 wraps was 12 inches (30 cm). I needed 36 beads, so I threaded on about 50…just to make sure. It’s better to have too many beads than not enough!

Once you have threaded on all your beads, thread on the clasp bead, then one small bead. Then bring the thread back down through the clasp bead, leaving about a 6 inch (15 cm) tail. Tie a square knot on the bottom side of the bead

Make 3 more chains with 2 strands of thread for a total of 4 chains. Drop the tail thread and continue to make a row of chain stitches to equal the length required for your bracelet (the length includes the first 4 chains).

You don’t have to count the chain stitches, just check the length of your chain to fit around your wrist comfortably. For reference, I did another 65 chains to make my length 12 inches in total.

To create a loop for the clasp bead, make an additional 5 to 8 chains. This will vary depending on the size of your bead. I needed 7 chains to fit around my bead. Slip stitch back into the first chain you made for your loop (for me that was the 7th chain from my hook). Chain one and snug that up nice and tight to secure the loop. Try the bead to make sure it fits.

Make one single crochet in the top loop of the next stitch. Bring a bead up the thread and snug it up to that single crochet. Make one single crochet around the bead, working into the top loop of the next stitch. Let the bead drop to the back of your work.

Make one single crochet in the top loop of the next stitch, then bring another bead up the thread and snug it up to that single crochet.
Create a beautiful Boho style necklace made with ribbon, yarn or crocheted strands. There are so many possibilities for this necklace by using any number of strands or types of yarn. It is perfect to use with the wire wrapped pendant tutorials that I have here on my blog, and also for any pendant that you may have. I have created a video tutorial for this project that offers other possibilities, and that can be found at the bottom of this post.

The ribbon and yarn I have is an assortment of thrift store finds and yarns purchased from small yarns shops. The colorful ribbon yarn pictured above is made by FFF and is called Jolliet Multi. I couldn’t find a source online, but there does appear to be some available by second sellers on Etsy and eBay.

Look for fun textured and colorful yarns. If you can’t find ribbon yarn, you can crochet strands using a simple chain stitch.

I have a few tutorials to go with this ribbon necklace. The first one is for the hook and loop closures. These are so pretty and easy to make! I didn’t create the design for this set (although I modified it somewhat), I got the idea from a book called Handcraft Wire Jewelry. It is a great resource.

The other tutorials I have are for the wire wrapped pendants. I have two different options for this pendant…a cage technique and a technique for a top-drilled pendant. I will be doing a tutorial on how to crochet around rocks, beads and other round objects soon. The pendant in the image above is a walnut done with this technique!

To begin, cut three to seven strands of ribbon and/or yarn 28″ (71cm) in length (I used five strands). If you are crocheting the strands, make the chain 26″ (66cm) in length with a 1″ (2.5cm) tail on each end. Line up all the strands evenly on one end, find the middle and mark it with a piece of yarn.

Tie your first knot 1″ (2.5cm) to the right of center, keeping the outside edge of the knot on the inside of the 1″ measurement. Depending on the size of bail on your pendant, you may want to string your pendant on now. If the bail is too small to fit over the hook and loop or knots, string the pendant on now. If you have a pendant with a jump ring or a large bail, you can attach that later.

Repeat on the left side. Your two knots will sit on the inside of the 2″ (5cm) measurement. (The tape measure marks are not the actual center of the necklace, just notice how the knots are between the 2″ mark…sorry for the confusion.)

Tie the third knot 2″ (5cm) to the right of the first knot, again…keeping the outside of the knot on the inside of the 2″ measurement. Repeat this on the left side making sure to make each side even.

Repeat this again, creating two more knots, 2″ apart for a total of six knots. If you are using a pendant with a large bail that will fit over the knots, you will want to string that on now, otherwise, it will not fit over the hook and loop clasps.

Thread the ends through the loop attachment, leaving about a 1″ (2.5cm) tail. Fold the ribbon over and hold it in place. If you are using the set I created the tutorial for, use the end with the two wraps of wire.

Cut a 7″ (18cm) piece of 24 gauge wire and wrap twice around the loop. Bring the wire down one side of the ribbon, about 1/2″ (1.25cm) and make a flat wrap around the ribbon. Pinch the wrap with your pliers. Make another wrap just below the first wrap and pinch it flat again. (This encases the first wrap).

Continue to flat wrap the wire back up towards the loop, crimping each wrap with your pliers. Once the wire is snug up against the loop, bring the tail of the 24 gauge wire back up onto the loop, on the opposite side of your starting wire, and create two wraps around the loop. Cut the wire on the inside of the loop and crimp it snuggly to the inside.

Repeat with your starting wire, cutting the tail to the inside and crimping it nice and snug. Trim the tail ends of your ribbon (making sure not to cut the necklace ribbons…I’ve done that before…boo-hoo!) If your pendant has a jump ring, attach it now and you are done!!

These seed bead and wire wrapped earrings are fun and easy to make! The tutorial shows how to make the earring form out of wire and then how to wrap the beads onto the form with fine gauge wire.

I designed these earrings to match the wire wrapped bracelet tutorial I did a while back. <a href="https://patriciafentie.com/2019/11/20/wire-wrapped-bracelet-tutorial/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="If you didn't see that tutorial, you can check it out here.
To begin, place a feature bead on a headpin and cut to 1/4″ (7mm). Using the round nose pliers, make a small loop. Repeat for the second bead and set these aside.

Next, cut a 6″ (15cm) piece of 20 gauge wire and fold it in half so it looks like a hairpin. Use the flat nose pliers to crimp the wire at the fold so it is nice and snug. Using the second to the smallest size on the bail making pliers, make a loop on the bent end of the wire.

Then, using the largest size on the bail making pliers, wrap about 1.25″ (3.5cm) of the wire in the opposite direction of the lower loop. Flush cut the top ends of the wire.

Using the flat nose pliers, grip the tips of the cut wires and bend them very slightly in the opposite direction of the big loop. Then take the wire cutters and cut the very tip of the small loop to separate the two pieces. You will now have two long earring wires.

Close this bottom loop on each piece, making it tight against the flat part of the wire.

If you have sensitivities to wire and have to use hypoallergenic earring hooks, you can just create a straight piece of wire, and rather than making the large top loop, make a small loop on each piece of wire with the loop in the opposite direction from the lower loop. Follow the wire wrapping directions below and then place the finished pieces on the earring hooks.

Now cut about 15″ (38cm) of 28 gauge wire and make several tight wraps at the base of the earring form, close to the small loop. String on 2 or 3 tiny seed beads and 1 or 2 larger beads.

Begin to wrap the wire and beads around the earring wire, making a few wraps of fine wire between the beads to secure in place (this is where the video is helpful). String the wire back through beads as if you are ‘sewing’ the beads in place.

Continue to add beads, wrapping them all the way around the earring wire in a creative and freeform way. There are no real ‘rules’ to this, just be playful and don’t hesitate to take beads off if they don’t fit properly. This wire and bead weaving is a bit like doing a puzzle and that is why it is nice to have an assortment of sizes and colors of seed beads.

Continue to wrap wire and beads towards the top of the earring wire and leave about 1/2″ (1.25cm) at the top so the earring can fit comfortably in the ear. Wrap the 28 gauge wire around the top of the beads several times to secure. Cut the wire off and crimp it in with pliers. Cut the tail from the starting wire at the bottom and finish in the same way.

At this point, you can add your feature bead by opening the small bottom loop on the earring piece towards you (open it like a door). Place the feature bead in the loop and close again away from you (like you are closing a door). File the tips of the earring wires with a nail file so the wire is smooth and won’t poke your ear. You are done!

Look how pretty they are!

This wire wrapped bracelet is very easy to do and is so beautiful! We start with creating the bracelet frame, and then it is just a process of weaving seed and glass beads around the frame! You can use an assortment of sizes and colors of beads for an eye-catching creation.

The written directions are below, but I have created a video tutorial as well and you can find that at the bottom of the post.

The frame of the bracelet will be made with the 16 gauge wire and 20 gauge wire. To figure out what length to cut the wire, start by measuring the circumference of your wrist. For the 16 gauge wire, add 4 inches or 10 cm. For the 20 gauge wire, add 6 inches or 15 cm. My wrist is 6″ or 15 cm, so I cut the 16 gauge at 10″ or 25cm and the 20 gauge to 12″ or 30 cm.

Start with the 16 gauge wire and create a spiral on each end. Then shape this wire around a form or your wrist to fit and turn the spiraled ends inwards to face your wrist. Allow about a 1.5 inch or 4 cm gap between the spirals to slip the bracelet on your wrist.

Then take the 20 gauge wire and start with 4 tight wraps near one of the spirals. Do 2 loose wraps around the bracelet and then do another 2 tight wraps. Continue all the way around and finish with 4 tight wraps. Cut the wire to the inside of the bracelet and crimp the ends in.

Measure the length of your bracelet from one side to the other, from spiral to spiral. Mine was 5″ or 13 cm. Multiply that amount by 10 to calculate how much 28 gauge wire you will need. Add another 10″ or 25cm for good measure. For my bracelet, it was 5″ x 10 = 50″ + 10″ = 60″ or 155 cm.

Start the 28 gauge wire by doing a few wraps at the base of the 20 gauge wire. Wrap fine wire over the 4 wraps a couple of times. String 4 to 6 beads onto the fine wire and wrap around the bracelet frame, keeping the beads on the top (as best as you can…see below). Do a few wraps of wire to secure the beads in place. If desired, feed the wire back through some beads for additional security.

Continue to add a few beads at a time, building them on the top side of the bracelet.

Once you get to the middle of the bracelet you can set a feature bead if desired. Make sure to feed the wire back through this bead at least once to secure it. When it is nice and secure, add support beads around the base of the feature bead. Continue to wrap beads around the bracelet until you reach the other side.

Fasten off the 28 gauge wire by wrapping it a couple of times around the 4 wraps of the 20 gauge wire, and then do a few wraps between that and the spiral. Cut the ends to the inside and crimp close. Shape the bracelet to your wrist and you are done! Isn’t it pretty!!!

Learn how to wire wrap a side-drilled pendant in this step by step tutorial. This technique can be used with any pendant that is drilled through the middle of the bead. I had such a great response to the tutorial on how to wire wrap a stone with a cage technique, so I thought I would offer another style of wire wrapping!

20 or 22 gauge dead-soft or artistic copper wire

28 gauge dead-soft or artistic copper wire

Side drilled bead

Flat-nose pliers (optional)

Chain-nose pliers

Round-nose pliers

Bail-making pliers (optional)

Wire cutters

Cloth tape measure

If you don’t have any pliers at all, then getting a kit would be more cost-effective. The kit includes a bent-chain-nose plier, but not the bail-making pliers.

For this project, I am using a 22 gauge dead soft copper wire for the main structure and 28 gauge to do the weaving designs. You can use a 20 gauge wire for the main structure and choose any type of craft, brass or silver wire.

To calculate how much wire you need for the main structure, measure the span of the bead where the hole passes through. Mine was 1.25 inches. Then measure around the top of the bead from one hole to the other, in the direction of your design. Mine was 2.25 inches which ended up being halfway around the bead. If you have a long narrow bead, that measurement may only be the top 25% of the bead.

Then you will need to figure out how long you want the woven piece to be. This is the decorative work that will be the bail and what is wrapped around your bead. If you have a long, narrow bead, you can allow about 7 to 8 inches. For a wider bead like the one I am using, you can allow about 8 to 10 inches. Then you want to double that length of wire.

I’m allowing 10 inches for my design, so my wire would be 1.25 + 2.25 + 20 inches (2 x 10), for a total of 23.5 inches. I just cut mine at 23 inches which ended up being lots. (The video explains this so much better).

String the wire through the bead, center it and bend each side at a 90-degree angle at the top.

Cut a piece of 28 gauge wire for the weaving. A general rule of thumb is for each inch of weaving on a 20 gauge wire, you will use about 12 inches of 28 gauge wire. For the 22 gauge wire, you will use about 9 inches of the fine wire per inch.

I will refer to the strand of 22 gauge wire closest to you as wire A, the wire furthest from you will be wire B. Holding the two strands of heavier wire together, start your fine wire on wire B with 3 wraps. Then do 3 more wraps around both wires A and B to secure them at the top of the bead.

The weaving pattern is as follows: wrap 10 wraps around wire A, then do the eleventh wrap around both wires, do the twelfth wrap around wire B only, then bring the wire under both wires A and B, and begin the pattern again with 10 wraps on wire A. Repeat this pattern 14 times.

Once you’ve completed 14 pattern repeats, finish with 10 more wraps on wire A. Turn your work over so that wire B is now facing you. Bring the 28 gauge wire to this side and do 10 wraps on wire B.

String on a seed bead and do one wrap over the top of this bead, holding the wire in place with your thumb. Then do another wrap, bringing the fine wire over both wires B and A. Continue to wrap it underneath both wires. Now do 10 wraps on wire B (the wire closest to you). You have completed one pattern repeat. Wrap a total of 10 beads into your pattern. You may want to add more depending on your design, but 10 is a good amount to start with.

Once you have woven on all your beads, cut a piece of 22 gauge wire about 10 to 12 inches long. String this through the back of your bead and create a cage at the back by bending both sides of this wire at a 90-degree angle. Use some 28 gauge wire to secure the two sides together with 4 or 5 wraps.

Use a bail-making plier or round object to create a bail towards the front of your bead.

Wrap both the cage wires around the bail a couple of times. Then wrap the woven wire around the bail in a decorative fashion. There are no rules here, just be creative! Bring the decorative wire along the front of the bead in any design you desire. I secured the right side of the woven wire to the side wire with some 28 gauge wire. I then tucked the top wire on the left underneath the side wire (see below)

I continued wrapping the 28 gauge wire on the right wire (see above) for about one inch and then left about 3/4 of plain wire. I created a spiral towards the center of the piece with that wire. I then shaped the other wire around that spiral and left about 1.5 inches to coil this wire in the opposite direction.

To finish everything off, I wrapped the two cage wires to the back, cut them and tucked the tails into the back of the bail. You could use these wires to make more spirals on the front or back. I was satisfied with my design so I just tucked them away.

So there you go! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Please share it on Pinterest or Facebook and with anyone you think might enjoy it!
Learn how to make a wire wrapped pendant! Wire wrapping is an easy and creative way to make all sorts of wonderful jewelry. In this tutorial, I will show you how to use copper wire to make a ‘cage’ that can hold anything that doesn’t have a drilled hole. This technique can be used for sea glass, crystals, semi-precious stones or even funky stones from the beach.

For your convenience, I have created a video tutorial, however the written directions are provided below as well!

The supplies you will need for this project are:

20 gauge dead-soft or artistic copper wire

28 gauge dead-soft or artistic copper wire

Cabochon, stone, sea glass or some item to wrap

Flat-nose pliers (optional)

Chain-nose pliers

Round-nose pliers

Bail-making pliers (optional)

Wire cutters

If you don’t have any pliers at all, then getting a kit would be more cost-effective. The kit includes a bent-chain-nose plier, but not the bail-making pliers.

The stone I am using is a 35mm round Aventurine cabochon. You can use any stone you like and the link I provided in the supply list is for a 30mm x 40mm Aventurine cabochon. To figure out how much 20 gauge wire you will need, measure the circumference of your stone and add 8″ (20cm). Cut 3 pieces this length and mark the center.

Then cut 3 pieces of the 28 gauge wire, 20″ (50cm) in length. Hold the 3 pieces of larger wire together side by side. Use the fine wire to wrap several wraps around all 3 large wires, starting with the center mark. Don’t wrap too tight or the wires will collapse together, you want to keep them flat. Pinch the wraps nice and tight together from the sides as you are wrapping.

Cut the tails of the fine wire to the inside of your piece and flatten them with pliers. Once you have the center wrapped, gently shape your 3 strands of wire around your stone. Use the fine wire to wrap around the 3 strands on either side of the stone near the top.

Mark the triple strands of wire at the top where each side meets. Bend all 3 wires on each side at a 90-degree angle from the center.

Use a 4″ (10cm) piece of 28 gauge wire to wrap the two sides together. This doesn’t have to be neat as this wire will be covered later on.

After you have joined the two sides together in this way, keep the two back wires straight (these will be used to make the bail) and bend the remaining front wires to each side. You have now created the cage!

Push the fine wrapped wire pieces to the top of the cage. Starting with the back of your piece, hold it carefully, and use your chain-nose plyers to pull the back wires into the center of the piece.

Flip the cage over and place your stone in the cage. Repeat the same process in the front to encase the stone as shown above. You can use your fingernails to do this as well.

To make the decorative woven wrap for the bail, cut 20″ (50cm) of 28 gauge wire. The bail wire closest to you will be the main wire and will get the most wraps. The wire furthest away will only get a few wraps. Start the fine wire on the closest bail wire, wrapping the wire underneath and then towards you. Do 10 wraps in this way.

Gently push the wrapped wire tightly together as you wrap. For the 11th wrap, go around both wires, repeat this for the 12th wrap. Then repeat this pattern again…10 wraps around the closest wire and 2 wraps around both.

Repeat this pattern 9 times or until you run out of wire. I did 9 repeats and then wrapped the remaining wire on the other side.

Using the bail-making pliers (or a round form like a chopstick or knitting needle), wrap your bail wire to the front of your piece. Take the front wires that were bent to the side and wrap them around the bail wires as shown above. This doesn’t have to be neat, it actually looks funky if it is not. Leave about 1.5 inches for a tail on each wire an secure them to the back of your piece. Use the round-nose pliers to coil the ends.

You will now have 2 wires left. At this point, you can leave them as they are and create a pattern on the front of the stone.

Or you can wrap them with the 28 gauge wire as I did below. I used 22 inches (55cm) of wire for each side. I then did one wrap around the bail with the wire on the left (facing you).

Now cut the left outside wire to 1.5″ (3.75cm), leaving about 0.5″ inch (1.25cm) of bare wire at the bottom, and cut the right outside wire to 1.75″ (4.4cm), leaving a little nub of bare wire at the bottom. Coil the left wire to the left and the right to the right, making the right coil a bit bigger and higher than the left as shown in the image below.

The two center wires will be coiled to the left as well. From the bottom of the coil on the left, measure down the next wire 1.5″ (3.75cm) and cut. Coil this wire to the left, placing it below the previously coiled wire. From the bottom of this new coil, measure down the next wire 1.5″ (3.75cm) and cut. Coil this wire to the left, placing it below the previously coiled wire.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="634" src="https://patriciafentie.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/wire-wrapped-pendant-1024x634.jpg" alt="Wire wrapped pendant

You will have to fuss with the coiled wires a bit to get them to lay flat. I do show all of this in more detail in the video provided.
