When I first came back to crochet after a 35 years hiatus, one of the first projects I took on was a poncho using a technique called Irish free-form crochet. It was a very ambitious project and I did make videos on how to crochet small flowers and leaves as I was making this project.
As I have worked on building my blog and YouTube channel, I have occasionally uploaded one of these tutorials on YouTube. I recently added two more motif tutorials and I thought I would present all the video tutorials here as a collection.

I have a few more tutorials in this series, and I may eventually offer a complete course on how to make the poncho, using the Irish free-form crochet technique on Udemy where I have my Boho Poncho Online Course. But for today, I have these six designs!

The yarn I used for these motifs no longer appears to be available. It was called Mondial Cotton Soft Bio and it was 100% organic cotton. It is a number 3 fingering weight yarn, but of course, you can use any yarn you like to create these patterns. I have seen the Mondial yarn on Etsy and eBay, so you may have some luck there if you like this yarn. I found a comparable yarn at Yarnspirations and I put a link for that below.
The supplies you would need for these tutorials are:
- Number 3, fingering weight yarn in a selection of color
- 2.5 mm (between a B-1 & C-2) crochet hook
- Darning Needle
- Scissors
- Hand Steamer (optional)
Click on each video below to watch the tutorial here or pop over to YouTube and watch it there!

I hope you like these tutorials and find some inspiration to use the motifs in various projects. I think the flowers and leaves work well to embellish garments, knitting projects or crochet projects (like hats and scarves for example). Have fun!
